In our mission to be a respected and sustainable aquatic company, we have worked with a highly committed team in the last years to achieve the most demanding international certifications. In Caleta Bay we started the certification process in 2016, certifying 4 culture centers in the BAP standard: Cascajal, Pucheguin, Costa Pucheguin and Farellones.
Today we have 3 freshwater centers certified BAP and GLOBALG.AP: Rupanco, Pitreño and Cululí,in addition to 12 fattening centers that have undergone certification processes in both standards: Chilco, Calamaco, Playa Astilleros, Barquillo, Marimelli SCA, Pucheguin, Marimelli SCB, Cascajal, Cochamó, Costa Pucheguin, Factoría and Farellones.
In addition, we are certified in the ISO 9001: 2015 standard in the area of administration.
This year, the goal is to incorporate new certifications to our processes: ASC and ISO 45001, and recertify management in ISO 9001 and all freshwater and fattening-trout centers in BAP and GLOBALG.A.P
"The challenge for this year is great, but we are committed to meeting the standards of the most demanding certifications such as ASC. we set these goals because we know that we can be efficient and conscientious in the environment, that we can be good neighbors in our communities and that we can be a sustainable company", says Aníbal Pérez de Arce, General Manager.
Carolina Toledo,
Sub-Manager of Environment, Concessions and Certifications
The sanitary programs that we have implemented have allowed us, as a company, to promote the sanitary standard of our fish. More than 10 years ago, it also enabled us to start a program focused on reducing the consumption of antibiotics.
“In its early stages we focused on reducing the consumption of antibiotics of our trout. Priority was given to the work of a preventative program through the use of vaccines and functional foods"
Later, we worked on discontinuing its use partially in each center to harvest part of our cages free of antibiotics.
Today, we are happy to have our first certified 100% antibiotic free center in the X Region. This is the result of a pilot program that is being replicated today in other centers.
Our efforts aim to achieve an antibiotic-free production and that this corresponds exclusively to specific and sporadic events.
I take advantage of congratulating the technical team that has strived to innovate constantly in the way of doing things,” says Osiel Guzmán, Technical Area Manager
In August 2018, the Community Development area was created in Caleta Bay, under the responsibility of Eduardo Mas, Deputy Manager. This arises from a desire to materialize our willingness to be a good neighbor in a new, concrete action. Being a good neighbor means understanding that one does not live alone, but within a community, to understand that, in order to have a harmonious coexistence, one must strive to carry out actions that contribute to the community. We understand that these actions range from being respectful and friendly, to being ordered with special care in generating the least possible impact in terms of the environment, as well as being available to help find joint solutions to common problems or needs.
These first months of work, the focus has been on Eduardo presenting himself to the community on behalf of the company, generating a link with people to get to know each other.
For this and the year 2020 we are actively working with local foundations, in the development of 4 projects of connection in the communities:
We are generating a project with Huella Local, a foundation that deals with the collection of demographic, social and communal information. With these findings, we will get an idea of the needs of our communities, allowing us to put together a portfolio of projects. Then, the members of these we can look for high impact solutions, contributing to the development and strengthening of our communities.
On the other hand, at the education level we will work with the Enseña Chile Foundation, where we have already signed an agreement that led to the insertion of a teacher for the 2019 school year at the Los Andes de Melipeuco High School, IX region.
In addition, we will develop a program to complement the training of technical high school students in the aquaculture race, managing tools and opportunities.
Finally, the foundation Children first will help us to work with children between 0 and 5 years old, in situations of vulnerability and poverty, generating the opportunity for cognitive and emotional development at an early age, in this way the arrival to basic education will be faced with better tools. What you learn as a child, accompanies you throughout your life, says Eduardo Mas.
In the month of September 2017, the offices of Caleta Bay Asia were inaugurated in the city of Tokyo.
The mission of Caleta Bay Asia is to meet the specific needs of the Japanese market, which currently represents 65% of Caleta Bay sales, along with expanding marketing and distribution in Japan and being a bridge to enter the Asian market.
To enter other countries in Asia, we will work closely with Caleta Bay Chile to develop products that meet the requirements and standards of each market.
Parallel to the expansion, we will work on first stage marketing activities to position the Caleta Bay brand. Our goal is that our customers and potential customers can differentiate Caleta Bay trout, valuing its superior quality and high food safety.
One of the greatest strengths of our company is to be able to offer products of the highest quality continuously, every day of the year, comments Jun Hirama, Manager Caleta Bay Asia.
At the end of March 2018, the corporate offices of Caleta Bay in Puerto Montt were inaugurated. The objective of this project was to create a collaborative work space between the areas that will enhance the identity of our company and will help generate a quality work environment.
The layout was in charge of Contexto, a company specializing in the development of corporate projects and office habilitation.
The conceptualization of the project was based on the cages of the centers. These had a great impact on the layout, such as central corridors connecting the cages (corporate areas) and certain materials, like the blue carpet representing the sea.
Taking into account the climate and how it affects the mood, we sought to utilize the warm, natural light, as well as the noble and welcoming materials such as mañío.
To encourage meetings, communication and the exchange of ideas, common spaces were created, such as copycenters and a cafe, a place where you can enjoy a coffee with a panoramic view of the Puerto Montt bay.
The new offices generated a new way of working and collaborating between the areas, which has been very positive. On the other hand, they have generated a sense of belonging and pride. It is very gratifying to hear the positive comments of all who visit.
Claudia Paris, Secretary of Management comments.
We estimate that approximately 20 students of this school, by 2021, will be the children of company employees. There is a double commitment, which gives us the opportunity to develop a support program for the technical career of aquaculture in the school.
We understand that there is a lack of interest in aquaculture in current generations. This is based on various opinions, generally contrary to the aquaculture industry; a lot of disinformation, as well as a forceful outdatedness of the existing labor possibilities in the area.
Here we see a great opportunity for intervention, presenting our support to the Technical School, through ONG Canales. With this foundation we work on the elaboration of a support plan for the technical career that consists, among others, in:
Maintenance of the Hatchery: donation of smolt, eggs or fish, for the study of the students.Technical support for the repair and maintenance of pumps and others.
Professional visits to farming centers, both on land and at sea. Visits to facilities of key suppliers for the industry, such as food plants.
Cycle of talks and classes of specific topics, for example: food, composition of food; veterinary genetics; environment and security; etc.
Support in places for professional practice, with the possibility of employment.
With this plan, we hope that the development of the students will help them to have a good opportunity to enter the labor market in the future; competent and effective. In addition, it will raisie the standard of people who will come to the industry tomorrow, says Eduardo Mas, Community Development Deputy Manager.
In our constant search to create quality work environments for our people, 8 new pontoons have been inaugurated from the end of 2017 to March 2019.
The emphasis has been on enabling functional spaces, with a strong focus on details that impact on the greater well-being of the people who inhabit them. In this way, we have sought to generate cozy, comfortable and warm interior spaces. To achieve this, clear tones have been used on walls, ceilings and floors, as well as warm lighting and natural textures like wool and wood for the furniture.
"Living in a pontoon is a new experience, which makes the company's concern for the well-being of each one feel." Juan XXX comments, XXX Center Operator
For this 2019, the inauguration of 2 more pontoons is planned, which will follow the same quality standards and which will probably incorporate improvements such as having a renewable energy system.
The idea is that regardless of which center is working, the standard is maintained, so that people do not see their quality of life affected by the mobility of their position.
As part of the concern for the well-being of our workers, for 3 months we worked together with the dealer Alimcar to improve the quality standard of the casino's food service at the processing plant. The result of the joint effort has been reflected both in the improvement of both food and infrastructure quality.
"In relation to food, I have noticed a better quality of food, as well as a presentation of the most attractive dishes."
"The casino does not look like a company casino, but a restaurant. The space is beautiful, bright, neat and clean. In addition, we no longer have to make long lines thanks to the new design of the service line and the incorporation of technology in the registry."
"I would like to be able to invite my lady to eat here, it is the most beautiful restaurant in the region".
